Iffects belonging to this group are due to the abort wavelength iong.stivg radiation originating on the sun. An example of this typ* of phenomenon is the sudden increase In the radiowave obsorptiost in the ionosphere due to ionization by solar UV radiation associatoof with solar flares. The second group includes phenomena vh,ch are delaved rolative to the onset of flares and radio buv*ta ind are associated with solar corpuscular streams. It has also been established that in addition to the fast (sporadic) variations, the field and the ionospheric parameters are subject to slow changes associated with the general level of solar activity both In the optical and in the radio rang**,, this type of olosr variation which can be correlated with the level of solar acLiviiy, bolajig'f to the third group of phenomena,, The preseat auta*rs review lite relition between sporadic radio emission of thft sun and the state 4,i' the ionosphere on the basis of published data asid measurements which were carried out at NTRYI durinS 19S8 and 1~5f) The review is given under the following headingsl 1) Relation between solar flares, radio bursts and goophystcak phenomena due to the shott wavelength tomizimS sokor rodistion 2) Relation between motor flares, radio burst# and the g*ophysicol phenomena due to corpuscular streams. 3) Long-period variations in the state of the Lor.osphere and solar radio emission. It is shown that fade-out and other ionospheric )heviomend in the first group are better correlated with bursts of sporadic radio Card 2.,,4 M200 tin the i e I a t ion between sporadi c ,4/14 1/61/004 lowilnogl(J2 i zou/B514 emission on high frequencies than with bursts of low frequencies I'his haR been conftrmed by the work of M R.Kundu fife( 7 J Geonhvs iies b5 3903 1960) and also the radio-astronem,scot tail ionosphorit observations carried out at WIRFI in 19W There ks tonxiderabit, evidence suggesting that bursts of solar radio emiss on on low 1'requenctes are associated with ionospheric and magn-itic disturbances due to the entry of solar corpuscular streams into tie Earth s atmosphere, The use of solar radio emission as an index of solar activity ror the purposes of long-range forecasting of the critical 1'requencies of ionospheric layers dote not appear tt have any xpecial advantages an compared with the optical ind-ax of solar activity A possible advantage to that the solar ridio data are frequently easier to obtaid than the optical date. The problem can be divided Into two prArtst 1) separation of the individual isomers and 2) imomtrization of motha- and ortho-xylol*s into paraxylolo. Labormtory experiments on freezing 0out the p-isomer were tested at temporAtitros of -23, -40 and -50 C and retention times of 15, 30, 45 asW (-0 mxnutes. It was found that in the absence of o--xylolet the goelaratiLon of p-xylole takes place satisfattorily at -504Cl namely the yield of p-isomer reaches 18% with its residual concentration ka w-xylole (filtrate) of 1.6 to 6.8%. Thus the method tan bit ustd for th~* preliminary separation of xyloles, providing the filtrats is submitted to a further separation for which the adsorption method. was tried. The possibility of this method of separation was tested using activated carbon of various marks (BAU, KAD and Card 1/3 s/o68-.v/6ojooo/o08/002/003 K071/1433 Isomerization and Separation of Xylol*a KAD ground). The beat rosalts wore obtained with EAU carbon. It was found that a mixture rich in p-isomor passes through the adsorbent practically unchanged but if the contoat of p-isomer does not exceed 15% the separation does take place. On passing a Wxture through the adsorption column,at first rs-iscKner is obtained followed by a mixture rich in p-isomer and then agai.i a-isomor (Table 2). Thus, after preliminary separation of p.-icylole by freezing, the filtrate can be passed through an adsorption column and a practically pure m-xylole and a frAction rich a p-tylole tan be obtained. The former can be passed for the imom(ritation treatment whilet the latter tan be again submitted tc the freezing treatment. The isomerization of pure o- and a-xyloles was tested using an apparatus previously described Otef,2) and an aluminosilicate bead ca!alyst. The optimum conditions were found to bet temperature 450 C and feed rate 0.6 hr-1. The Influence of addition of gaseous hydrocarbons (propane - butane fra~;tion) to the reaction mixture was also tested. The experimental results are given in Table 3. It was found that the additlox *:r gaseous hydrocarbons has a positive effect on the yield of p--tylolo on Card 2/3 3/0681;/60/000/0(,8/002/003 107 $435 Isomerization and Separation of Xyloles isomerization of m-xylole, and a negative Wool on the isomerization of o-xylole. Thus, the IsomerizatAon treatment of the above two isomers should be carried out separate.1y. on the basis of experimental results, a scheme for the woparation and. treatment of xyloles is proposed (a** figure). Thit consists *to preliminary rectification of technical xylole and lacmerization products from isomerization plants of o- and m-xytoles for the separation of lighter and heavier hydroc*rbousi fine ractificetion, for the purpose of separation of o-syloles from the mixture of p- and m-xyloles. The former is then passed for the is:imerization treatment and the latter mixture to passed for the frt*ong treatment etc., as described in the experimental part of the work* There are 3 tables, 1 figure and 2 Soviet referencits.
