Malawi’s Lake Malawi, 580 km (360 mi) long, is the country's most prominent geographical feature and contains more fish species than any other lake on earth. Lake Malawi is the fourth-largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, the ninth-largest lake in the world by area and the third-largest and second-deepest lake in Africa. A portion of the lake is included in Lake Malawi National Park, a UNESCO site since 1984.
