The Rock of Gibraltar is a monolithic limestone promontory (a raised mass of land that projects into a lowland or a body of water) 426 m (1,398 ft ) high located in Gibraltar. The Rock is one of the two pillars flanking the Strait of Gibraltar, the other being located in Northern Africa. The Rock of Gibraltar’s upper area is a nature reserve and home to around 300 Barbary macaques, Europe’s only wild monkey population.
