ADDITIONAL SAM FACILITIES
AT THE
KAPUSTIN YAR/VLADIMIROVKA MISSILE TEST CENTER, USSR*
Additional surface-to-air missile (SAM) launch facilities have been
identified at the Kapustin - Yar/Vladimirovka Missile Test Center during
the continuing scan of photography from KEYHOLE However,
interpretation of the launch facilities and of the remainder of the test center
is severely restricted by heavy clouds and haze.
The SAM launch facilities are contained in two adjacent sites, an
expansion to the east of the SA-3 SAM launch area. The -larger, eastern-
most site is approximately 500 feet in diameter, and appears similar in
configuration to the SA-2 R & Dlaunch site. The site consists of a circular
road pattern with up to six dark areas spaced along the periphery and an:
additional darkened area situated approximately in the center. Immediately
to the west of the larger site is a smaller site which is similar in size and
appearance to previously identified SA-3 sites. Four darkened areas are
spaced along the periphery of a semi-circular road pattern at the smaller
site, and an additional darkened area is situated near the center.
Construction status at the two sites cannot be determined. The sites
were barely visible, and possibly under construction,
