ABSTRACT: Basic theoretical calculations a nd r~osultu of the
operation of the V0.5 (automatically controlled) and No.6
(manually controlled) coke oven batteries on the MaE;nitogorsk
Metallurgical Combine (liagnitogorskiy Metalluri;icheskiy
Kombinat) are described. The diagram of the autorpatic control
used is given in FiG.l. The scheme was proposod. by F.V. Ashi-
khmin, head of KIP and Automatics of the WhIK. The control of
heating conditions was based on the followinG principles:
1) the content of oxygen in the waste Gas was kept constant by
variations in the proportion of coke oven gas supplied to the
mixture of coke oven - blast furnace gas. 2) The total volume
of coke oven a4d blast furnace gases used for 'tile heating of
the battery was kept constant. 3) The calorific value and
composit ion of coke oven gas were assumed as beinS constant.

Automatic Control of Heating Conditions of Coke Ovens,
the basis of the results obtained (Tables 2, 3)t the following
conclusions were reached: 1) The stability of mean-shift
temperatures in both batteries was the same. 2) With the
automatic control, t.,.e necessity fox., juatlual corrqictions ot. the
supply of heating Sas was decreased. 3) The stability of the
distribution of res5ure in heating systeins in both batteries
was the same. 43 With the automatic control dil'ferences,
between maximum and minimum consumption of heat decrease.
5) On the battery operating with the automa:tic control varia-
tions in the coefficient of excess air between the individual
shifts decrease. There are 3 tables and 2 figures.

polarity on the distribution of particles of different substances along -,the axis

ABSTRACT: The experimanis des,=ibed were carxied out ori bronze, brass,

was determined from o8cillograms; heat , juantity was measured
as well. The cylindrical aamples vere ground and polished
and had a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 18 mm. The ex-,.
periments were carried out at an amperage of 6 aq and the
entry velocity of the particles wau detarmined from the de-
crease of the wGight of the sample. A dporeane of the duration
of the discharge decreased the development of! energy on the
anode and cathode; less energy developed on the cathode than

The Influence of the Duration of the Diecharge on tho Evaporation Volocity
of the Particles From the Surface of Metal Arc Electrodes
by Rieder and Germer; the latter carried out his experiments
with direct current. It was found that vith a decrease ~f
the duration of the discharge also the diucharge velocity is
reduced, and that if the duration of tho disahargo rem,gins
