Dear Mr. Casey:
The PBS 13-part series Vietnam: A Television History
has outraged patriotic Americans. The organization of
American Historians, among others, has criticized this
version of the war as journalistic and not historically
factual.
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the
government agency that contributed $1.2 million to this
$5.6 million production is reported to have received more
protests over this project than any other. The views of
historians who were interviewed and listed as consultants
were almost totally left out.
This PBS misrepresentation of the facts, if allowed
to go uncorrected, will continue to misinform and confuse
American understanding of the geopolitical realities of
today, undermining our resolve as Americans to face mount-
ing Communist aggression in other areas such as Central
America - just two hours from our southern border.
The danger goes deeper. The PBS production is
already being used in over 150 colleges throughout our
nation. Our youth is having its mind set by this media
rewriting of history.
Something must be done and something is being done.
Accuracy in Media (AIM) is taking action. The National
Endowment for the Humanities has responded to our repre-
sentation with
a grant of $30,000 to prepare a critique
of the PBS series for television. We need to raise an
additional $170,000 to cover the cost of production and

Our production is well advanced and will be ready for
national distribution by next month. Mr. Charlton Heston
is the narrator.
We need your help. Will you join with others in making
a special contribution to this project? Hundreds of AIM
supporters, individuals and corporations, are responding with
contributions that range from-five dollars to ten thousand
dollars. Please help us to get the facts out to the American
people on the Vietnam War.
