1. SIGNIFICANCE: THE SS-X-24 LAUNCHED( (PROBABLY WAS 25X1
TESTED FROM A RAIL-MOBILE LAUNCHER AT PLESETSK ICBM LAUNCH TEST
SITE (LTS) 28. (TSR)
2. REMARKS: INDICATIONS ARE THAT THE SS-X-24 ICBM TESTED 25X1
rDEFSMAC S/DQ/251-84 (S)] WAS LAUNCHED FROM A RA E 25X1
LAUNCHER IN THE RAIL-SERVED PROBABLE ICBM LAUNCH TEST FACILITY
(LTF) ADJACENT TO PLESETSK ICBM LTS 28 AND NOT FROM PLESETSK
ICBM LTS 22 AS PREVIOUSLY REPORTED (NPIC 25X1
EVENING HIGHLIGHT REPORT 84-0462 ITEM 2). 25X1
ENHANCEMENT OF IMAGERY REVEALED AN ELONGATED, DARKENED 25X1
AREA OF SNOW PARALLEL TO AND SOUTH OF THE RAIL SPUR SOUTH OF
THE BURIED LAUNCH CONTROL BUILDING. IN ADDITION, NUMEROUS
STRIATIONS AND SOME POCKMARKS WERE IN THE DARKENED AREA. THE
PATTERN AND LOCATION OF THE STRIATIONS AND POCKMARKS SUGGESTS
THAT THE MISSILE WAS PROBABLY LAUNCHED FROM THE SOUTH RAIL SPUR
AT A POINT JUST WEST OF THE BURIED LAUNCH CONTROL BUILDING.

ON PRELAUNCH IMAGERY NINE RAILCARS WERE IN THE 25X1
LTF. SEVEN RAILCARS WERE ON SPUR NORTH OF THE BURIED
LAUNCH CONTROL BUILDING AND TWO RAILCARS WERE ON THE SPUR SOUTH
OF THE BURIED LAUNCH CONTROL BUILDING. FOUR 25X1
RAILCARS WERE ON THE NORTH RAILSPUR. LIMITED INTERPRETABILITY
OF AVAILABLE IMAGERY HAS PRECLUDED THE IDENTIFICATION OF UNIQUE
FEATURES (IF ANY) ON RAILCARS IN THE LTF. (TSR)
ENHANCEMENT AND FURTHER ANALYSIS OF IMAGERY OF LTS 22 25X1
REVEALED THAT NO ADDITIONAL POCKMARKS OR 25X1
EXPENDED LAUNCH ASSIST DEVICES (LADS) WERE PRESENT 25X1
THEREFORE, BASED ON THE SUBTLE POSTLAUNCH ACTIVITY IDENTIFIED
AT THE LTF AND THE LACK OF NEW EVIDENCE OF A LAUNCH AT LTS 22,
IT IS LIKELY THAT THE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED POSTLAUNCH ACTIVITY
AT LTS 22 WAS A CONTINUATION OF THE PRELAUNCH ACTIVITY REPORTED
