1. SIGNIFICANCE: THE CONE DISH ANTENNA SYSTEM HAS BEEN
INTRODUCED INTO THE CUBAN SURFACE-TO-AIR MISSILE (SAM) FORCES,
SIGNIFICANTLY UPGRADING CUBAN COMMAND AND CONTROL
CAPABILITIES. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SUPER HIGH FREQUENCY DATA
LINK CAPABILITY OF THE CONE DISH SYSTEM SIGNIFIES A MAJOR
UPGRADE IN THE COMMAND AND CONTROL COMMUNICATIONS OF THE CUBAN
SAM NETWORK. THE UPGRADING OF COMMAND AND CONTROL
CAPABILITIES COMBINED WITH THE EARLIER INTRODUCTION OF THE
MODERN TARGET ACQUISITION RADARS, BACK TRAP AND ODD PAIR,
SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVES THE CUBAN AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM. (SWN)
ADDITIONALLY, THESE IMPROVEMENTS PROVIDE THE NECESSARY
PRECONDITIONS FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF THE SA-5 MISSILE SYSTEM
TO CUBA, ALTHOUGH NO SA-5 EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN OBSERVED. (SWN)
MANAGUA SAM SUPPORT BRIGADE NO. 2 HAS SERVED AS AN ASSEMBLY
AND CHECK-OUT FACILITY FOR NEWLY ARRIVED SAM EQUIPMENT.

ANTENNA, ONE 8-METER OPERATIONS VAN, AND TWO 5-METER SUPPORT
