you
After hearing,,you speak at the Chief Executive
Organization's seminar last fall in Washington, I
went away inspired not only because of what you said,
but the sincerity in which you presented your thoughts.
It is important that business people who influence
thousands of other people help you revitalize the
image and integrity of the CIA. The platform we pro-
vide is unique because of the top level businessmen
and women who would attend our breakfast.
Is it at all possible to select a Tuesday, Wednes-
day, or Thursday morning in March, 1988 to welcome you
to New York and have you address our very interested
audience?
I want to take this time to wish you and your.
family good health, happiness and fulfillment for 1988.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Smith/Greenland Company has
invited you to address one of the Smith/Greenland Breakfast Series on 1, 2, 3,
or 8, 9, 10 December in New York City at the Bankers Trust Building from 8:30
- 10:00 a.m. The suggested format is 20 minutes of remarks followed by 10
minutes of questions and answers. The topic would be of your choice. You
could expect an audience of 150 - 200 Chairmen of the Board, Presidents and
Vice Presidents of such leading companies as Nabisco, Citicorp, Sony, and
Pfizer. Although the press does not cover the breakfasts as media events,
leaders in the publishing industry would be present.
Smith/Greenland is a highly successful profit-oriented advertising firm
that handles such accounts as the New York City Department of General
Services, Somerset liquor account (billings run $23 - $27 million), and
Faberge men's McGregor cologne ($2 - $3 million). (See opposite for news
articles.) According to the breakfast program, the purpose is to broaden
horizons of the advertising people and their clients. "Each speaker
represents an interface with our society at large. By listening and
exchanging views, we add new windows to our own world." Speakers are invited
to address the different problems that confront today's world in order to
educate the members of the audience. The Breakfasts are gratis for all
attendees. Previous speakers have been Admiral Hyman Rickover,
John Cardinal O'Connor and Admiral Stansfield Turer in 1982 after leaving the
CIA. (See brochure opposite for list of previous speakers.)
As you remember, you met Mr. Greenland when you spoke at the CEO Breakfast
in October. I believe these breakfasts serve a dual purpose of entertaining
clients as well as advertising for new ones, and I think you should decline
this invitation. As Director of Central Intelligence, I do not believe that
you should be involved in that type of program. If you agree, please sign the

Dear Mr. Greenland:
Many thanks for your invitation to speak at the Smith/Greenland Breakfast
Series the early part of December in New York City. In my new position as
Director of Central Intelligence, my schedule is heavily committed and I am

Washington attending the Chief Executive Organization's seminar.
Best wishes for a successful breakfast series.

Mr. William M. Baker
Director, Public Affairs
Central Intelligence Agency
Washington, D.C. 20505
Dear Mr. Baker:
It was a real treat meeting and listening to Judge
William Webster. He represents everything that is good
in America.
We will be honored to have Judge Webster speak at
our breakfast December 1st, 2nd or 3rd, or 8th, 9th or
10th.
Our audience is a very special one. It is comprised
of some of the most influential, prestigious business-
men and women from companies across the entire business
spectrum. They are Chairmen of the Board, Presidents
and Vice Presidents who would be most interested in
hearing Judge Webster's message.
Each of our previous speakers has participated on a
pro bono basis because of the quality of the audience.
The breakfasts are held at 8:30AM and conclude by 10:OOAM
so that the entire day is free for other commitments.
The location is in the Bankers Trust Building, 280 Park
Avenue, on the luxurious 10th floor conference area.
Approximately 150 to 200 attend, by invitation only.
As you can see by the enclosed invitation, our
former guest speakers have included Admiral Stansfield
Turner, General John W. Vessey, Jr., Admiral Hyman G.
Rockover and John Cardinal O'Connor.
I would need a photograph and biography of the Judge.
I hope any of the above dates will be agreeable and
look forward to hearing from you.
Cordially
