INSIDE THE WHITE HOUSE
BOB WOODWARD TAKES AIM AT QUAYLE
? Vice President Dan Quayle
and his staff are a little edgy,
having just heard that Washing-
ton Post investigative reporter
Bob Woodward and senior politi-
cal writer David Broder are
teaming up for an in-depth article
on the Vice President. Some
White House officials fear that
Woodward is trying to turn up
some dirt on Quayle.
? The latest joke is what
George Bush said after being in-
formed that Millie may be a
source of his Graves' disease:
"The bitch set me up. "
^ One of George Bush's new
prized possessions: a specially
printed box of Wheaties featuring
the President catching a fish. The
brass plaque on the Lucite-en-
cased memento reads: To PRESI-
DENT BUSH, THE CHAMPION OF
PRESIDENTS, FROM THE COMPANY
OF CHAMPIONS.
' Thg teleohone_ in Bush's
Qrivate _study in the White
House living quarters has but-
tons giving him direct lines to
the following people, as indicat-
ed on tabs next to each button:
VP, Marlin, Baker, Sununu,
[White House deputy Andrew]
Card, Webster. Brady, Brent,
[Bush secretary] Patty Presock,
Cheney, and Powell.
? The Bush 1992 campaign
team is shaping up. Commerce
Secretary Robert Mosbacher will
soon resign to become chairman
of the campaign. Pollster Bob
Teeter will serve as grand strate-
gist. Watch for some fireworks
over this appointment-Teeter is
a rival of White House chief of
staff John Sununu, who is expect-
ed to direct efforts from the
White House. Teeter rejected a
White House job in 1989 because
he didn't like Sununu. Look for a
major campaign post for political
consultants Charlie Black or Rich
Bond.
