PURPOSE: For transporting an operator, 2 passengers, and 120 pounds of
equipment in moderate to rough water for distances up to 110 miles.
CHARACTERISTICS: Operates in two conditions of trim; buoyant and semi-
submerged
Wood and aluminum construction with plywood sheathing on
bottom, sides, and deck.
Length 19-1/2', beam 5'3", draft; buoyant 2'8"; semi-
submerged 3'8", weight 3650 pounds.
Speed in semi-submerged condition; full speed 4.7 knots;
cruising speed 4.1 knots; slow speed 2.5 knots.
Designed to be cached in up to 30 feet of water for periods
up to 3-4 weeks.
OPERATIONAL
CAPABILITIES: This boat is remarkably stable, easy to maneuver and control. It
has operated successfully in ocean swells of 6-8', with
surface chop of 5' and winds of 30 knots. Sea-keeping
qualities are excellent.
A number of radar detection tests, using various types of radar
units have been conducted with this boat and radar
detectability is less than that of a rubber boat, type RB-12.
It is extremely silent acoustically and has been operated
against various underwater hydro-phone equipment.
