public speaking; and fundamentals in the care, maintenance, and use of

3. .A, special fund has been established by the union to which every member
must contribute. It is earmarked for the military rehabilitation of a
New China.
4. A Volunteer Corps has been organized by the unions to .ielp union members
wishing to join the Communist Amy. The "orpe guarantees that the training
and skills of the recru. is will be used by the army, and they will not be
automatically sent into 'the infantry.
5. On 1 October 1949, a secret memor .um was issued to all anion chairmen,
stating that the union will back up any demand for increased wages Provided.
one-half of the increased gained is contributed to the union.
On 5 November 1949, the Chinese Doctors Union at its annual meeting had
serious die xtes over the fixture airs of the union. One group Insisted
that, as doctors, their task in to remain neutral and heal the sick. As
Communist members are both numerous and powerful in this unions it may not
be Able to pxrsne its impartial political policy.
Although the unions are dominated by? Conrtiuist chairmen and committee
members, not all members are pro?-Comrua lst. The members are generally
satisfied with working conditions in Eons; Kong, and, are not in favor of
subscribing to increased union dues. Whatever their inclinations!, me bers?
abide by decisions of their union leaders, as they want to avoid Communist
persecutions. In general, they are willing to belong to a Communist union
as long as they are not in Communist territory.
