Gorodishcbe5pproximately N 53-20, E 26-017, a town with a population of about 4,000, was the rayon center of Gorolishchenskiy Rayon. 2. all the buildings in Gorodishche were one- story structures. Most of the buildings were of wood construction and some 3. Stoloviehskaya ulitsa and Novogrudakaya ulitsa, two of the main streets in Gorodishche, were paved with cobblestone in the city and also. all the way to Stolovichi Ze roximately N 53-10, E 26-07 and Novogrudok approximately N 53-36, E 26-7 respectively. Traffic was quite heavy in the north-south but east-west traffic was very light. Three buses ran daily direct ion, from Baranovichi C 53-08, E 26-02,) through Gorodishche and north beyond Novogrudok. There was no east-west bus line through Gorodishche. 4. Electricity was supplied by a hydroelectric station, located approximately five kilometers east of Gorodishche on the Skrobovo Selsovet Dam on the Servach River. This hydroelectric station furnished electricity for the administrative and governmental buildings and for most of the homes and streets. Gorodishche had no water or sewerage system. Medic 1 and sanitary goods could be purchased, and prescriptions filled, at the p .rmacy.. A life-size statue of Stalin, built in 1945-1946, was located in the northwest corner of the public square. Regular Sunday services were held at the Russian Orthodox church, but the Catholic church had been con- verted into a grain storage. 6. The militia in Gorodishche were armed only with side arms, and source did not know lthether they had cars or trucks assigned to them. The Rayon Militia Office was located in the same building as the MV). 7. Mail was picked up four times daily; out of town mail was transported twice daily by truck to Baranovichi. A telephone office was located in the post office. There was only one automatic telephone with a private booth in the post office. The charge for a local call was 15 kopeks. There were no other public telephone booths in the village. Private citizens were frequently permitted to make local calls from telephones from any of the offices which had them. 8. The rayon newspaper was Sovetska rodina, a weekly publication printed in Russian; its contents were almost entirely a reprint of the Baranovichi Krasnaya zvezda. A subscription to Sovetskaya rodina cost 90 kopeks per month. 9. The divisions of Rayispolkom included Zags, a General Complaint Department for final appeals to the Rayispolkom, a technical section, a Rayon General Welfare Office, a Division of Social Welfare, a Division of Kolkhozy, and a Central Statistical Directorate.
