1. Earlier this year, the Light Construction Section, Faculty for Machine Construction,
at the Technical Institute, Dresden, was split into a number of institutes.
These are all located at the old address of the Section, Dresden A.16, Duererstrasse 24
(Tel. 44041). The former head of the Section, Prof. Willy Richter,l has now been made
head of one of the institutes. The professors of the Section are the regular professors
of the Technical Institute. The new institutes are:

2. In July 1954, there was talk in the
institutes of their transfer
to a new and independent school by 1 Septenfoer 1954: this would be subordinate
to the Ministry of the Interior.

Prof. Manfred Oehmichen and Kurt Koloc have been lecturing to 8th term students
this year. Both are Dresden Technical Institute professors. Oehmichen lectures on
special power machines and Koloc- on standards. and factory organization.

4. Earlier in 1954, Dr. Heinz Soehngen2 from Darmstadt, West Germany, gave two
guest lectures:
a. On the theory of the final Hilbert transformation (sic) (Zur Theorie der
endlichen Hilberttransformation) and
b. Aerodynamic forces on oscillation grids (turbine blades etc.) (Luftkraefte
an Rohwingenden Gittern (Turb-inenschaufeln usw).
5. During 1954, the Institute of Tensile Strength studies has been engaged on a research
task, that of the development and construction of an experimental tank (Wasserkanal)
for current flow investigations.
6. In July 1954, Dr. kfnu) Ir~gang was engaged in making the calculations for a wind
tunnel with a diameter of about 3 meters.
7. A large new building for these technical air studies is now under construction
and is supposed to be ready by 1 September 19,34.
