I I the army now fears that even an agreement by Sukarno to ban the PKI might only be a prelude to a ban on all political parties and the creation of a single national party, in which former PKI members would assume positions of leadership. 2. As a result, General Nasution is said to be considering a proclamation of national emergency authorizing the army to re- place Sukarno's palace guard with regular army troops and 25X1 rendering Sukarno virtually incommunicado. The army would then set up an acceptable civilian authority, apparently retaining Sukarno as a figurehead. /`'l C o 4-2 A Djakarta newspaper reports that the purge being conducted against supporters of the abortive coup is being extended to representatives of the Indonesian government abroad.
