I read him our Journal items which he said was a very good record of what we have done. He asked that I LDX a copy of the items to him which I did. I later called him back to emphasize that the notifications merely stated that we had a new finding and that there were no discussions of the nature of the finding or the country involved. He asked if there were any precedents before the current situation where we had a new finding and the Congress was in recess. I said I was not aware of one. (Internal Use Only - RJK) CONSTITUENT Received a call from Dayle Hennington, Administrative Assistant to Representative W. R. Poage (D., Texas). He requested a point of contact for Ted Cleeg of United Technical Laboratories, Dallas, Texas. After contactin Procurement Management Staff, I called I-Iennington back and provided him with the necessary information for his constituent.. STAT 6. (Internal Use Only - RJK) CONSTITUENT Received a call from Gray Armistead, Administrative Assistant to Representative David Satterfield (D., Va.). The Congressman had received a call from a Dennis Peterson, representing a Richmond radio station, who requested the location of The Congressman attempted STAT to turn aside the request but Peterson was insistent. Armistead assured me that the Congressman was a strong supporter of the Agency and would do n thin to embarass us. After conferring with STAT and I called Armistead back and explained our policy o T. not STAT revealing the location ofi I offices. Armistead said he understood STAT perfectly and would pass is xn ormation on to the Congressman. I also provided him with Mr. Thuermer's A/DCI, name and telephone number should Peterson wish to contact an Agency representative. Mr. Thuermer's office has been advised. 7. (Unclassified - RJK) ADMINISTRATIVE Received a call from Sue, on the staff of Representative William J. Hughes (D., N. J. ), who requested page size maps of several Middle East countries. I told her I would put these in the mail to her along with a brochure outlining the maps available from the Government Printing Office. 8. (Unclassified - DFM) LEGISLATION In absence, STAT took a call from Bill Jones, INR /State' Department, regarding the Agency's comments to OMB on the State Department position on H. R. 1311. OMB has sent our letter to the National Security Council for comments and the State and Justice Departments for information. Jones does not agree with the position in our letter, i.e. that the bill could be interpreted to prevent certain covert actions, but was unsure regarding how the State Department would respond.
