5. Called Bill Woodruff, Senate Appropriations
Committee staff, and firmed up arrangements for a visit by Jim Calloway,
Guy McConnell and himself next Thursday and outlined our suggested briefing
topics. They were quite agreeable but he said he would probably not be
coming out now since his nomination to be Assistant Secretary of the Air Force
for Financial Management has been sent to the Hill and his hearing on this
appointment is scheduled for Thursday morning. He urged us to go ahead
with Calloway and McConnell, however, and I plan to be in touch with them
further.
After checking with the Office of Personnel,
I called -:::::jto ttell him he would be receiving a call early next
week to arrange an appointment or appointments for interviews with some of
our senior intelligence officers.. I reminded him again, however, that the
personnel situation here was extremely tight and I could not be at all optimistic
as to the results of these interviews.
7. The office of Bill Timmons, Assistant to
the President for Legislative Affairs, called to invite John Maury to attend
acongressiona Relations staff meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 a. m., in
the Roosevelt Room. This will be a meeting of all legislative liaison officers
in all departments and agencies. Mr. Maury will attend.
25X1 8. Colgate Prentice, Deputy Assistant Secretary
of State for Congressional Relations, called to say that Representative
Tennyson Guyer (R., Ohio), a new member of the House Foreign Affairs
Committee would like to come out for a briefing. I said we would be glad
to see him and suggested that he call me.
