This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for aDIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1PI.c (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1P.lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (F) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Two military training areas are situated,
respectively, north and south of Khmelnitskiy.
Training Area 1, covering 800 acres, 3 kilo-
meters (km) north of Khmelnitskiy at 49-27N
027-01E, contains a wheeled-vehicle driver-
training course; seven storage buildings, four ap -
parently secured; and six probable support build-
ings. When the area was first observed i~
the driver-training course had apparently
received very light usage.
photography indicates slightly increased usage;
photography reveals no usage.

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
Rail service for TA-1 is probably available
at Khmelnitskiy; for TA-2, probably at Khmel-
nitskiy Army Barracks Rakovo.
Road Service
Secondary roads serve both training areas.
Aircraft Landing Strip
None was observed in either area; however,
Khmelnitskiy Airfield is adjacent to TA-2.
Administrative and Troop Housing Area
None was observed in either area; how-
ever, TA-2 is adjacent to Khmelnitskiy Army
Barracks Rakovo.
General Storage Area
TA-1 contains seven probable storage build-
ings, four in a secured area and present in
4,000 acres immediately south of Khmelnitskiy
Airfield at 49-23N 027-01E, is associated with
the Khmelnitskiy Army Barracks
_ Facilities consist of two moving target
tank firing ranges, a probable wheeled-vehicle
driver-training course, two small-arms ranges,

and a combat training area with two small 25X1 D
lakes in the center. Photography from _
shows the area receiving
very light usage; however,
photography reveals an increase in activity,
especially at the two tank firing ranges. _

TA-2 contains two ranges, (LI) 550 by 50

Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Range
'1'A-2 contains a two-lane 4,000- by 2,400-
foot range (Ni) with two moving 10 degree tar-
gets and one moving 90-degree target. TA-2
also contains a five-lane 4,000- by 2,400-foot
range (N2) with three moving 20-degree tar-
gets and one moving 90-degree target.
