`ibis report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center IPIc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (I3) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (L) storage areas, (I) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingrangcs, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (K) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Minsk Army Barracks Northwest is located
8 kilometers (km) northwest of Minsk on the
south side of the Minsk- Molodechno rail line
(Figure 1). The installation is not rail served.
A secondary all-weather road provides access
to the Minsk- Molodechno highway. Minsk Army
Barracks Uruchye (AL-1) is located 15 km east,
Minsk Army Barracks South-Southeast (AL-5)
10 km southeast, and Minsk Army Barracks
(AL-2) 9 km east. Numerous other military
areas are located in and around Minsk.
The installation covers approximately 300
acres and contains five administrative buildings,
22 barracks, six storage buildings, 42 support
buildings, and seven vehicle storage/mainte-
nance buildings. Eight possible storage buildings
are located in a heavily scarred new construc-
tion area on the west side of the installation.

Railroad Service
The installation is located on the south side
of the Minsk- Molodechno double-track rail line.
No spurs or loading docks are observed.
Road Service
An all-weather secondary road provides
access to the Minsk-Molodechno I-lighway.
Administrative and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 (Figure 3) has two administrative
buildings, 16 barracks, and 11 support buildings.
Eight new barracks were observed on
_ coverage and one on - coverage.
Area D2 has one administrative building,
five barracks, and seven support buildings.
Three new barracks were observed on
= coverage.
Area D3 has two administrative buildings,

photography and seven KEYHOLE missions be-

parative analysis reveals continued construction
in the installation but little change in the general
level of usage between

support buildings. Two small storage buildings

Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas area. One storage/maintenance building and

The storage /maintenance buildings are located
just east of a 600- by 400-foot probably secured
vehicle park. The vehicle park appears to be
occupied by several rows of probable vehicles
snow-covered photography.
Area J2 has two 120- by 40-foot storage/
both support buildings were first observed on
coverage.
Track activity and new construction indi-
cate probable occupancy of all buildings.
An athletic field, K, northwest of Area D1
reveals evidence of light usage.

appeared to be occupied by at least nine rows of
probable vehicles, but on
age only three rows were apparent. The two

Area J3 has two 120- by 30-foot storage/
maintenance buildings and two support buildings.
This is a small, secured probable motor pool
Small Arms Firing Range
Area L is a 700- by 150-foot small arms
firing range. Lack of scarring on -
coverage indicates limited use of this range.
Driver Training Areas
One small driver training area observed on
= coverage and two Figure-8 driver training
courses observed on coverage, im-
mediately south of the installation, are not dis-
cernible on - coverage.
