Approved For Release 2007/03/01: CIA-RDP99-00498R000300100004-7 ARTICLE APPE dtRED NEWSWEEK ON PAGE-7-22 _ 3 December 1979 LETTERS RIGHTER OUT LOOK In your report "Spying on U.S. Business" (NATIONAL AFFAIRS, Nov. 12), you quote me as saying that the results of security checks of U.S. industrial firms are "dis- couraging." I would like to correct the record. That quotation was from a speech made in August of 1977. Since that speech, I have been very encouraged by the respon- siveness of Ameri.an industry to new em- phasis on industrial security. The results have been impressive. I no longer find the situation "discouraging." Instead, it is heartening. STANSFIELD TURNER Director of Central Intelligence Washington, D.C.
