1. I will host a Community meeting to discuss developments in Latin
American debt in light of the recent IMF meetings, Argentina's impasse
with creditors, and signals that Mexican President-elect Salinas will
take a tougher stance with creditors. The meeting is scheduled for
Wednesday, 12 October at 1000 in Room 7E62, CIA Headquarters.
2. Please come prepared to offer your views on the current situation
in Latin American debt and on the domestic political scene in major debtor
countries. In order to refine a preliminary draft CP/TOR on Latin debt,
we will also discuss the role of structural adjustment in alleviating debt
problems in Latin America.
3. Please have your clearances passed and call in the
Office of the NIO/Economics with your attendance
plans by COB Tuesday, 11 October.
