Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85T00153R000100030012-5 0 THE DIRECTOR OF CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE Notional Intelligence Council 23 February 1983 STAT The questions you posed to me in your letter prompted us to do some research on our end. We've come up with the following information: (a) Either of two procedures can be used for obtaining "unclassified" government (including CIA) publica- tions. Requesters outside the US Government may obtain subscriptions by addressing inquiries to: Document Expediting'(DOCEX) Project Exchange & Gift Division Library of Congress Washington, D.C. 20540 National Technical Information Service 5285 Port Royal Road Springfield, VA 22161 (b) Requests for "declassified" documents are done on an ad hoc basis via the Freedom of Information Act procedures. This simply means that there must be a request for a particular document to be declassified and each document must be specifically identified as to title. Also, there is no distribution list for those that have been declassified by request. Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85T00153R000100030012-5 Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85T00153R000100030012-5 A DOCEX subscription will provide you access to all unclassified US Government publications on a particular area or subject. Hopefully, this would allow you to expand your country-by-country analysis of what the Soviet Union is saying and doing. I hope this information has given you some useful insight into the products available from the US Government. Sincerely, Henry S. Rowen Chairman Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85T00153R000100030012-5 Approved For Release 2008/01/14: CIA-RDP85TO0153R000100030012-5 ? 1 Feb 83 Requests for "declassified" documents are done on an ad hoc basis.
