SUBJECT Proposed Letter to Senator Goldwater
1. Action Requested: Sign the attached letter.
2. Background: The summer issue of WASHINGTON QUARTERLY
contained articles on intelligence by Goldwater, former
Church Committee staffer Anne Karalekas, and current SSCI
staffer Angelo Codevilla. The latter article (opposite) is
badly distorted and appears to represent SSCI views, which it
does not. The attached letter to Chairman Goldwater
complains about Codevilla's intransigence.
3. Staff Position: Bob Gates and have
reviewed this letter and strongly agree wi a recommended
action.
4. Recommendation: Sign the attached letter and
follow-up with a visit to Senator Wallop to register a
