On Thursday, 28 January 1982, the Senate Foreign Relations Subcom- mittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs was briefed by representatives from the Intelligencty on the current political and military situation in El Salvador. DIA opened the briefing with a description of the recent guerrilla attack on the airstrip in El Salvador. Detailed questions were asked about the government's stability, public confidence in the Salvadoran military, rise in insurgency and possible Nicaraguan involvement in guerrilla activities. 8.
