Acting Director McMahon chaired the meeting. ~

McMahon asked Fitzwater for a status report on results of investigations
into incidents of removal of classified material from Agency buildings
as discovered during the six last briefcase/package inspections.
McMahon, noting that two CIA finance officers have admitted misappropria-
tion of Government funds, asked Sporkin to emphasize to DOJ the gravity of
these cases and stay on top of them. He emphasized how the Agency traditionally
trusts its employees and indicated his willingness if necessary to sacrifice
classified information to ensure prosecution by DOJ. F__1
Fitzwater reported that deductions for Medicare will be taken from
employees' paychecks beginning with the 6 January disbursement and that
pay increases authorized in the December Continuing Resolution will be
reflected in paychecks received 20 January. Glerum called attention to the
OPM decision that lump-sum accrued leave payments for those employees
retiring after 31 December will be taxed for Medicare (1.3 percent).
In response to a query from Gates, McMahon stated that at
the DCI's request, is correcting facts in a New York Times artic e on CIA
which is to appear 9 January and which was furnished to us in advance by the
Times.

establishing FTE ceilings. 0
