ORD is charged with applying state-of-the-art technologies
and methodologies to effect improvements in intelligence collection,
analysis, and operations. We will report on significant progress
achieved in applying emerging technologies to inteZZiaence nrob7_ems
Crisis Management-Support to the DDI
On 1 April 1.982, the office of Research and Development officially
transferred the Crisis Management Automated Support System (CMASS)
to the DDI.
CMASS is a set of computer programs developed for the Task Force
Area of CIA's Operation Center to expedite the flow of information
to analytic task forces concentrating on 25

ly a dozen task forces were supported while the system was still under
development by ORD and its contractor, 25X1
CMASS brings together cable traffic, wire services, inter-analyst
mail and provides text processing. (Credit for its success belongs to
a succession of ORD and DDI personnel, among them: 5X1
