SUBJECT: Invitation to Address the Detroit Committee on
Foreign Relations
1. Action Requested: Indicate whether you wish to commit to an
address to the Detroit Committee at this time.
2. Background: You are invited to speak to this influential group
at your convenience between 20 May and 20 June. Recommend you not accept
any public appearances that could in any way jeopardize your confirmation.
The problem is the uncertainty of the confirmation schedule. You could
take a calculated gamble that all will go smoothly and accept a date closer
to 20 June than 20 May. You could also decline on the basis of the uncertain
schedule and ask for a raincheck until next Fall.
The Detroit Committee is an excellent forum--good place to air some of
our legislative concerns.. No recent DCI or DDCI has addressed the group.
3. Recommendation: Indicate your choice. I will have Public Affairs
follow up.
