Approved For Release 2007/03103: CIA-RDP83M00914R002100160081-7 EA 82-0150/1 20 January 1982 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence VIA: Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Executive Director FROM: Chief, Legislative Liaison Division SUBJECT: Delivery of OPEC Investment Declassification Package to Chairman Benjamin Rosenthal's (D., NY) Subcommittee 1. On Friday, 15 January 1982, the results of the inter-Agency declas- sification review of 17 documents relating to OPEC investment were delivered to Steve McSpadden on the staff of Chairman Rosenthal's House Government Operations Subcommittee on Commerce, Consumer, and Monetary Affairs. Also included were your letter to Representative Rosenthal and your handwritten note on the package itself. McSpadden appreciated our quick reaction to his Chairman's letter. He said he would review the material, discuss it with the Chairman, and get back to us if he had any questions about our deletions. He stated that they would not send the classified documents to the Government Printing Office as indicated in Representative Rosenthal's 13 January letter to you. 2. On Monday, 18 January, McSpadden called to say that he had reviewed the material and felt that unnecessary deletions had been made. We agreed that a meeting with those supervisors from CIA and other agencies who were involved with the declassification would be useful. We will meet with McSpadden at 1030 hours on Thursday, 21 January, at Headquarters. We will ~ explain that the deletions have been made in strict accord with Executive ~ Order 12065. If Mr. McSpadden still disagrees with our decision, he may recommend that Chairman Rosenthal consult fur ~ ar i er Chief, Le islative Liaison Division Approved For Release 2007/03103 CIA-RDP,$,~,ptl~9y14R00210016008?y~;,__
