25X1 le There are signs that the positions of Gheorghiu-Dej and Chisinevski (one
of the Cominform heads) are now in some danger. At present, Emil
Bodnaras, Minister of Defense, seems the most securely situated as he
enjoys the full confidence of Moscow.
2. Religious persecution, confined until now to the Catholic Churchl, is
being extended into Rumania's state church, the Rumanian Orthodox.
Patriarch Justinian, the head of this Church in Rumania, is now the
subject of attack, and his adherents fear he may soon be arrested.

Catholic Uniate and Roman Catholic Churches, both of which
acknowledge the primacy of the Pope.
