New Cable.
a. The Hungarian poet office engineering department has laid a new under-
gro=d cable connecting Budapest and bop in the ,USSR, It follows the
line Budapest - CeglAd - Szolnok - Debrecen - Nyi.?egyyhiza- Z{hony -
dop and is intended to be used exclusively for Soviet-Hungarian military
and political communications. It is isolated from the other cable lines
Within the country.
b. It will have branch lines which are still under construction, running
from Szolnok to Szeged and from T)ebrecen to Miskolc, the latter
presumably being routed via FolA, across the'Tisza River.
c. The boosting stations are housed in bunkersa It is assumed that the
Nyiregyhaza post office is the most important one on the line as it has
received 150 new sets of equipment. The "Hughes" communications system
between Budapest and Moscow makes use of this cable.
2. Borsodi-` Power Stations
a. A new ed..ectric peer ,station, situated just south of Sajoszentpeter village,
18 km. north of Miskolc, on the Saj6 River, is under construction and is
due for completion in 1954., at the end of the Five Year Plan.
b. The plant is scheduled to use low-grade coal from the Sajlszentpier mines
and will supply electric current to heavy industry at Miskolc., Di6sgy&
and other n1Ants within Borsod County. New works under construction at
Kazincbam ka and Saj8b1bony will probably be supplied from this new
