Approved For Release 2007 03( rr00415R000100090001-7 Journal - Office of Legislative Counsel Page 2 Friday - 4 August 1972 4. (Confidential - LLM) Spoke to Jay Sourwine, Chief Co Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, and based on the advise of CI Staff, corrected some of the inaccuracies in the Washington Post article of 7 July regarding the jailing in Cuba of a U. S. pilot of a highjacked airplane. I told Sourwine that evidently this was a chartered flight and in the rush and confusion the pilot had left behind proper identification and had been detained temporarily in Cuba until his bona fides could be checked. Sourwine thanked us for the information. 5. (Unclassified LLM) Delivered to Mr. Wheeler, in the office of Senator Jacob Javits (R. , N. Y. ), a suggested reply to a constituent's request for information concerning FBIS. Mr. Wheeler was satisfied and said no further action was necessary. 6. (Internal Use Only - LLM) Delivered to Robert Vagley, House Education and Labor Committee staff, clarifying language to amend section 1 5 - - ( provision) of H. R. 7130, Fair Labor Standards Amend- ments of 1972. The proposed language would resolve the existing conflict between section 15 and other provisions of law applying to Federal employees. Vagley said that this position seemed eminently sound and that he saw no reason why the language could not be inserted into the bill, and he will advise us should any problems arise. I stressed that we did not want this position to be attributed to the Agency and that we were providing the language to him on a nonattributable basis, which he seemed to appreciate. 7. (Unclassified - JGO) Met with Mr. Norman Cornish, Deputy Staff Director, House Subcommittee on Foreign Operations and Government Information, and discussed with him the Chairman's request for information concerning Agency contracts for Agency public relations and similar activities. Mr. Cornish readily accepted the fact that the Agency has no such contracts and said it would be necessary for the record that the Agency respond in writing to the Chairman's letter of 15 July. Mr. Cornish told me that he has been in regular contact with Mr. Valentin Povlovich Aksilenko, Second Secretary in the Commercial Office of the Soviet Embassy. The details of the meetings have been reported to the FBI and the Department of Commerce. He gave me a,copy of a compilation of Soviet Union imports to the United States for 1968-69 prepared by the Soviet Embassy by their records.
