MEMORANDUM FOR: Gene" Carter
Mr. McCone has requested that as soon
as a special mission, such as Ambassador
Byroade's team or General Draper's team,
has completed its work that he be given a
prompt briefing by the CIA representative
and by appropriate experts in the Agency on
the subject. The DCI wants the report itself
made available to him promptly with a very
brief summary of the principal findings.

1 November 1962, Subject: Reports of Interdepart-
mental Inspection Teams

1. With reference to I I memorandum to me on 1 Novee-.ATINTL
ber indicating that you want a prompt briefing by the CIA representative on
Interdepartmental teams, the report to be available to you promptly and a
brief summary of the principal findings, the following are the facts with
reference to the Byroade mission.
,L a. When the Byroade team returned both Mr. Kirkpatrick and
,.rTse df talked to Ambassador Byroade and reported briefly to you
on the general findings and conclusions which were almost com-
pletely favorable.
b. On 9 October the CIA representative STATINTL
the Byroade team, briefed the senior staff meeting of the findings
of that team.
c. The initial copies (carbons) of the Byroade report were
received in the Agency by me on Friday, 17 October, and were
sent to the Deputy Director (Plans) inasmuch as Byroade was
scheduled to make a presentation to the Special Group the following

week.
d. A second copy (the original), the official one from TL
was received in your office for your use at the same time; on
24 October it was also sent by your office directly

Director (Plans) autostat copies of the Byroade report, plus
four-page summaries of the reports on each of the two countries
indicating the Deputy Director (Plans)
comments, and indicating a action on the recommendations.
This report remained in your office until 30 October when it wasSTATINTL
transmitted to the Executive Director. It is attached herewith.
