Dropped by to see Robert Michael-,, House Appropriations Committee staff, and advised him that the Agency was not involved in the alleged Cuban landing and assassination plot as described in this morning's Washington Post. 6. Senate Appropriations Com- mittee staff and former Agency employee, called and advised that he had received good news from the brother of a former agent contact of his. the presiding judge dismissed the charges. just written a note saying he was pleased to hear the news. Met with Mr. J.R. Blandford, Counsel, House Armed Services Committee, and advised that the allegations in this morning's Washington Post on the Castro assassination plot are pure fabrications. I did not request any action on the matter on bel;alf of the Director but only passed it on as a matter of information for the Chairman or other Committee members who might raise the question. 9. I I Mr. Warner accompanied the Director to a meeting wit enator Leverett Saltonstall (R., Mass.) which w.is requested by the Senator. See Memorandum for the Record. 10. Talked to Senator Symington several times during the day. The Senator indicated that he was adamant against the position proposed by Senator Mansfield. The Senator discussed his desire to lace his comments it the RECORD concerning I las a matter of comment without reference to te Foreign Re ations o:-nmittee resolution. In discussion, nd the Washington Post item relating to the Castro charges were also discussed.
