Situation in the Dominican Republic
Report #153 - As of 10>00 f}m ED
1. An Associated Press bulletin from Santo
Domingo has just reported that four more Americans
were wounded in an exchange of gunfire in Santo
Domingo. Appropriate authorities here in Wash-
ington have as yet been unable to confirm or
refute this report.
rebels have been seen using
women's clothing and priests' robes for disguise
in their attempts to pass through US lines. One
rebel is said to have been captured at a roadblock
carrying $14,200 in poorly counterfeited ten
dollar bills.
3. The American Embassy in Santiago, Chile,
reports that the Chilean Foreign Ministry has
received a note from the Dominican charge d'affaires
informing the Chilean government that Caamano has
assumed the presidency of the Dominican Republic,
is in control of the entire country, and listing
the members of Caamano's cabinet. A Chilean of-
ficial interpreted this as an indication that
"Caamano's position is solidifying."
