SUBJECT Top Secret CIA Reports on the Ukraine
JACK ANDERSON: Which.country will be the next Poland?
I will tell you tomorrow's headlines today right after
this message.
The Soviet Union's western-most province, the Ukraine,
may well be the next Russian Poland.
Top secret CIA reports say the conditions there are the
same as those that brought about the Solidarity labor uprising.
Intelligence analysts are piecing together reports of a
riot there last month, brought on by poor working conditions and
a shortage of food.
Reports were heard that the local police are unwilling
to quell thje disturbance with the Soviets. And the hazy avail-
able information claims that the police might actually have fired
on KGB officials who were sent there.
