Surreptitious feedback from a member of Beggs' staff tol 25X1
briefing: Beggs was very impressed and totally convinced. He tee s
frustrated over his inability to solve the problem on his own. He may
ask for a sanitized briefing for members of his staff with the
understanding that he would certify that what the were hearing was
true. Beggs especially appreciated the waylpproached the problem, 25X1
making it a government-wide problem rather than specifically dumping all
over NASA.
-- Have received a heads up that General Ryan of MAC will be writing
a letter to the DCI complaining that he is not getting a full-time CIA
representative like he thinks you promised -- you said you did not.
SE Division did check the field regarding the alleged Soviet
defector but will double check.
The DCI and Dam's briefing before the SSCI on Grenada today went
very well. No problems.
-- There will be a series of NSC meetings next week preparing for
the President's trip to Japan: Subjects will include Japan's financial
issues, defense and foreign assistance aspects of Japan and Korea,
overall trip strategy, and a "walk-through" on Korea.
-- Forwarded for the DCI's signature a response to Linc on the
latter's request to use the NSA nondisclosure agreement instead of the
NSDD-84 agreement. Suggested that with a number of minor adjustments
they were spelled out and seemed reasonable this would be okay.
