Subject: White House South Florida Task Force
1. Messrs. of IAD/l attended a meeting of
subject group chaired by Admiral Danie! Murphy in the WH Sit Room
on 1 April. Also in attendance were senior representatives from
the FBI, Justice, DEA, NSA, Coast Guard, and IC Staff.
2. Admiral Murphy had just returned from a visit to the
Bahamas and Florida and was anxious to proceed with the Washington
end of his "Task Force". Admiral Murphy explained that we are in
the middle of a national emergency, focused in South Florida, and
that 80% of the U.S. supply of cocaine enters the U.S. via South
Florida. He wanted a clear statement of the problem, then a
development of procedures which will attack the problem. He wanted
each agency to explain what was needed and he would go to the
Vice President to see that these needs were met.
