USE OF CHEMICAL AGENTS IN AFGHANISTAN
There continue to be reports of the use of lethal chemical
agents--including nerve gas--by the Soviets in Afghanistan.
B. reporting ranges from credible accounts
that point to the use of specific agents to some that verge on the
impossible.
we know, 25X1
for example, that Soviet chemical warfare units are in Afghanistan,
but these normally are attached to all Soviet Divisions.
D. We believe it highly likely that there has been some use of
lethal chemical agents in Afghanistan; the evidence, however, is
still not conclusive.
