Weekly Report
Intelligence Community Staff
- The Chairman, DCI Security Committee, returned from his trip to Moscow. The
Chairman and staff discussed with State Department Security their concept for
securing entire floors of the new chancery building. They encouraged State to arrange
for timely testing of this proposal to permit the Security Committee to evaluate it
against the national plan for Moscow Embassy security.
Directorate for Administration
The Succession Planning List of the Senior Officer Development Program for the
Directorate of Administration is being forwarded to the Director of Personnel.
On 23 September a representative from the Office of Security Industrial Security
Branch provided a security briefing to employees

Directorate for Operations - No report.
Deputy Director for Science and Technology
- The New York Times asked CIA Public Affairs for permission to do a story on FBIS.
We have told Public Affairs that we strongly opposed and hope to maintain our usual
low profile.

Deputy Director for Intelligence
- SOYA, with the cooperation of the other DDI offices, has prepared talking points on
problems of NODIS traffic for the DCI to use at his next luncheon with Secretary
Shultz.
- EURA prepared a written briefing for Deputy Secretary of Defense Carlucci in
preparation for his trip to Romania which provided a general political overview on
Romania with emphasis on prospects for Ceausescu.
National Intelligence Council
- The NIC was visited by David Abshire of Georgetown's CSIS in his PFIAB capacity. He
and Col. Wood (Executive Director, PFIAB) discussed with the NIOs their relationships
with intelligence consumers.
- NIO-at-Large and his Assistant met with representatives of the
Nuclear Regulatory Commission concerning NBC's intelligence support needs;
NIU/NarCotiCS Chaired the first Narcotics Warning Meeting this week, at w ich the
DDCI spoke, and met with SSCI staffers to discuss the NIO role in narcotics
intelligence.
NIO/USSR-EE spent most of two days at NSA talking with their group managers on the
USSR (A Group) and international issues (G Group). He came away convinced that we
must do more to sensitize NSA and help them find imaginative ways to get more
intelligence
