Of Special Interest This Week
o FBIS is distributing extensive materials on the public statements
of Andropov. The Analysis Group distributed a collation of key
Andropov statements directly to about a dozen Intelligence
Community recipients, and produced a Special Memorandum
entitled, "Andropov on Major International Issues: The
Public Record." In addition, the Production Group and the
Joint Publications Research Service are issuing a collection of
major speeches and articles by Andropov including some unique
material from a collection of untranslated Andropov speeches
first published by the Soviets in 1979.
o Beginning the evening of 10 November, when program changes on
Moscow television and radio indicated a top-level Soviet
official had died, the FBIS Wire Service was in touch by
phone with major watch centers, including the White House
Situation Room and State Operations. At 0251 on 11 November
