Gates Deputy Director for Intelligence SUBJECT: DDI Activity Report - 15 - 19 March 1982 DCI/DDCI-Assigned Tasks ALA has begun drafting an assessment of the military situation in El Salvador for the NSC. NESA completed a memo at DCI request on the impact of an end to the Iran/Iraq war on Iran's relations with the US and USSR. At the request of the DCI, OGI is preparing geographic guides on El Salvador and other Center American countries. OSWR completed the requested unclassified report on the Soviet Acquisitions of Western Technology and delivered it to the DDCI. At the DCI's request, SOVA is supervising an inter-office project on the international role of Communist parties that is due I April. SOVA is completing work on a DCI request for a package on Soviet societal relations and the military-industrial complex. Work has also been commissioned on a DCI-requested paper on Soviet exile groups. Of Special Interest This Week NESA briefed Senate staffers on developments in southern Lebanon and the possibility of an Israeli incursion against the PLO. NESA and OGI debriefed Ambassador Habib following his latest swing through the Middle East. NESA and OGI briefed the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern & South Asian Affairs on Iraqi terrorism, the Iran-Iraq war, and Iraq's military suppply relationships. 25X1 Deriv C1 by Sinner -vw on rear 88 Approved For Release 2007/04/12 : CIA-RDP83M00914R002900010051-8 s SECRET OEA prepared material in support of Secretary of Defense Weinberger's trip to the Far East. OGI briefed the HPSCI staff on current developments in international terrorism. OSWR delivered a video taped briefing on the Soviet Space Program to the White House for viewing by the President. OSWR briefed Secretary of the Treasury Regan on the technology transfer problem. Lookina Ahead OEA will hold a Korean Seminar which includes experts from the academic community next week. OGI will host the Industrial Analysis Conference in the DDI conference room. Participants will come from the government, private industry and the academic community. David DeNoon, Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Economic and Energy Affairs, Department of Defense, will visit OGI for a-review of the CIA-DoD joint project on oil facility vulnerability.
