Action Requested: Sign the attached letters to the editors of Aviation Week and the Roanoke Times. 2. Background: Both letters ask for retractions as a result of their misrepresentation of your speech before the American Association for the Advancement of Science on 7 January 1982. 3. Recommendation: Sign the attached letters. Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Date Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Date Admiral, I talked to both Gregory and Carey. Both tried to be surprised; Gregory hid behind "no reason to doubt the truth of Carey`s statements" and editorial judgment. Carey was contrite and apologetic and wanted to assure you he meant what he said in the first paragraph of his piece and would appreciate the chance to discuss your differences with him at some point. Gregory will be glad to print your letter. Approved For Release 2007/0.3/03: CIA-RDP83MOO914ROO2700130002-1
