SUBJECT: NIO Monthly Warning Assessments: July
1. In reading the current Monthly Warning Assessments and in light
of last week's meeting with the NIOs, it occurred to me that a joint review
of the warning assessments by the NIC with the DDI, DDCI and myself par-
ticipating might be worthwhile.
2. In addition, I would like to see the monthly meetings viewed as an
opportunity to identify the specific collection requirements and opportun-
ities which would enable closer tracking of warning situations and of better
relating to new developments. The assessment produced by NIO/LA gives more
attention to evidence and collection than most of the others although they
too can be approved. I would urge that you sensitize all the NIOs on imple-
menting this approach and reflecting it in the reports.
