THE WHITE HOUSE
WASHINGTON
May 20, 1982
I am delighted to join the Veterans of the OSS in
congratulating you on receiving the William J.
Donovan Award.
Throughout your career, you have repeatedly dem-
onstrated your deep concern for the future of
America and the Free World. You have served your
country with great distinction for more than four
decades, leaving an indelible mark of quality and
excellence in your work with the nation's foreign
intelligence community. This legacy has served
many Presidents and our country exceedingly well
and set the standard for future operations.
In the past I have sought and received your wise
counsel, and I will continue to call on you as we
address the challenges of the future. Your wealth
of experience, judgment, and discerning mind make
you an insightful and valuable observer of world
events.
The nation acknowledges gratefully your devoted
service and outstanding achievements. All
freedom-loving Americans join me in once again
congratulating you on this fitting tribute to a
distinguished career.
Sincerely,
Mr. John A. McCone
