SUBJECT: Seabed Mining
1. Bob Keating who has been a consultant to the Law of the
Sea group tells me that what are called "submarine sulfides" are
to be found 200 miles off the Oregon coast and in relatively shallow
waters. He claims that these are more valuable than the manganese
nodules which have been the rainbow for seabed mining. These sulfides
lend themselves to hard rock mining to cobalt, zinc, silver, gold and
other materials, including manganese.
2. Will you have this checked out and have our evaluation of
the potential of seabed mining in the light of whatever this turns up.
