b. I LIAISON At the request of Gary Chase,
Office of Legislative Counsel, I called James Gehrig, on the Subcommittee
man Science and Space staff, Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and
/ Transportation, and made arrangements to show him an Agency document 25X1
regarding COSMOS 954.
8. I LIAISON Received a call from Bill
Miller, St lect Committee on Intelligence, who
stated the Committee still had not received the FBI report on Frank
Carlucci, DDCI-designee, and he did not believe the Committee would
hold the confirmation hearings as scheduled tomorrow unless they had
the report. I promised to pass this to the White House immediately.
9. LIAISON Received a call from Martha
MacDonald, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence staff, who said
Bill Miller, Staff Director, wanted the Director to appear before the
Committee to present a "state of intelligence" briefing on 9 February
at 10:00 a. m. and a "state of the world" presentation on 10 February
at 2:00 p. m. I told MacDonald we had received different indications on
what was expected in the way of briefings from Dan Childs, of the staff,
and that I would have to get back to her on this.
10. ADMINISTRATIVE DELIVERIES Delivered
to Jack Bra y, Staff Director, House International Relations Committee,
maps on the Middle East which he had requested for a speech to be given
by Representative Edward Boland (D. , Mass.) on Israeli settlements in the
Sinai. I told Brady we could have the maps mounted if he wanted but he said
he preferred that they not be.

Cynthia Simmons, in the office of Representative Richardson Preyer (D.,
N. Car.), a copy of an Agency press release regarding CIA tours.

Jane Wooten, in the office of Representative James Quillen (R., Tenn. ),
a copy of an Agency press release regarding CIA tours.

Chairman; envelopes containing notes from Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia
for Howard Liebengood, of the Committee staff; and notes on his briefing
bor Pat Norton, of the Committee staff.
15. (Unclassified - MG) LIAISON Received a call from Melanie,
in the office of Senator Strom Thurmond (R., S. Car. ), who requested a
copy of the new Executive Order on intelligence. I told her that as soon as
I get copies I would forward one to her.
16. (Unclassified - MG) EMPLOYMENT Received a call from
Beth Northrup, in the office of Senator Lowell P. Weiker (R., Conn. ),
who requested information on the Agency's Summer Graduate Studies Program
for a constituent. I gave her general information about the program and
told her that 1 January 1978 was the deadline for this year's program.

1. (Unclassified - RSG) LIAISON Took a call from Ms. Trudy Peterson,
National Archives, who inquired about the status of our review of the Warren
Commission documents relating to the House Select Committee on Assassinations
investigation. I told Ms. Peterson to indicate that Mr. Mickey Goldsmith.,
House Select Committee on Assassinations staff, and I have just talked about
the same subject and that I suggested access would be completed by Thursday,
26 January for Committee staffers at CIA headquarters.
2. (Unclassified - RSG) LIAISON Talked to Mickey Goldsmith,
House Select Committee on Assassinations staff, and indicated that Warren
Commission documents would be ready for his review on 25 January.

Representative Hamilton Fish (R., N. Y.) and Representative Silvio O. Conte
(R., Mass.), I accompanied OTR, to a briefing of two groups
.college students on the CIA.
4. (Internal Use Only - GC) LIAISON Spoke to Jim Gehrig, staff
of Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, on secure
phone regarding his call of 24 January on Cosmos 954.
/Answered Gehri 's questions regarding background memo supplied by
NFAC/CSS, office. Gehrig asked to see the memo a
nd
to be kept informed about contamination of the Canadian countryside.
Have arranged for to show the memo to Gehrig. Will inform
of Ge rig s continuing interest.
5. (Internal Use Only - RJK) LIAISON Colonel Mike Cullinane,
office of the Deputy Under Secretary for Space Systems, of the Air Force,
called to ask whether the Director had sent the letter to the General
Accounting Office stating that compartmented clearances for six staffers
would not be granted. After checking with I called
Colonel Cullinane back to give him a status report on the matter. He
expressed his concern that a GAO report dealing with compartmented
information has been issued and assured me that no one from the office
granted the GAO staffers any compartmented clearances.

5. (Internal Use Only - LLM) LIAISON Talked to Fred Barron,
in the Attorney General's office, who acknowledged receipt of the infor-
mation provided him under a letter signed by General STAT
Counsel, concerning the House International Relations Subcommittee
on International Organizations staff leaks. In response to my request,
Barron assured me that the material would only be reviewed by the
Attorney General and himself and Benjamin R. Civiletti, Assistant
Attorney General, and that ip keeping with our preferences he would
seek to have the material returned to the Agency for safekeeping and
further review by Department of Justice attorneys as required. STAT
O/SA/DO/O, has been advised.
6. (Unclassified LLM) LIAISON Jim Gehrig, on the staff of
the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, called to
have a fill--in on the COSMOS 954.
7. (Internal Use Only - LLM) BRIEFING Grenville Garside,
Staff Director, Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, called
to lay on a briefing on the PRC energy picture for himself and Dan Dreyfus,
Deputy Staff Director, in preparation for their trip to China with Chairman
Henry M. Jackson (D., Wash.).
8. (Internal Use Only - LLM) LIAISON Talked to Mike Kelly,
in the Attorney General's office, further concerning the investigations
by the House International Relations Subcommittee on International
Organizations.

aid of Mr. Kraft immediately
agreed that we cannot and should not answer this letter and apologized
for sending it to us. He said that he would take care of it.
Chief Clerk in the Senate Armed Services Committee, to advise that the
Director planned to attend both the morning and afternoon sessions of
the full committee on 27 January. Mr.Ticer was occupied, so the
message was left with his secretary who promised to pass it on.

office of Representative Paul Simon (D., Ill.), called to change the date
for Mr. Simon's luncheon /briefing from 30 January to 3 February 1978.
