b. Saturday afternoons are reserved for cleaning billets and weapons.
Saturday ends with the reading of daily bulletin at 17.00 hours.
c. There is no military training on Sundays but soldiers have to take
part in work brigades every other Sunday.

 a. Every soldier must become a member of one of several cultural circles,
e.g.,music, singing, art, chess, reading, cartoons and sketches, etc.
These circles are supervised by the political officers. They are held
in special political enlightenment rooms (politicko-vychovne svetnice
- P.V.S.).
b. In the reading circle, members are urged to compete for the Fucik badge
(Fucikuv odznak - F.0.). The badge is a white star portraying Fucik's
head and is worn on the left brest. To acquire the badge the member
must read 15 books, of which 10 are selected by the political officer
the remainder may be chosen by the reader. After reading the books the
member appears before a board consisting of three political officers
who examine him on the contents of the books; if he passes, he is
awarded the badge and the award is published in the daily bulletin.
3. Passes; leave; pay:
a. Passes for the garrison area, which covers a circle of 10 km. radius,
are issued by company commanders. Passes can be issued only for
Wednesday and Saturday evenings and for Sundays. On Wednesdays only
NCOs and exemplary soldiers are allowed to get time off. On Saturdays
and Sundays it is possible for nearly all the soldiers to get a pass.
b. A serviceman can get five days of leave in one year. The leave is a
privilege and not a right.
c. Since the monetary reform, the following pay scale has been in force:
private 70 Kcs. monthly
private 1st class 80 Kcs. monthly
corporal 92 Kcs. monthly
sergeant 105 Kcs. monthly.
Three cigarettes of the cheapest brand were issued to every enlisted
man daily.
A regular NC08i.e. professional soldier, receives 800 Kcs. monthly
plus uniform, underwear, and shoes.
