The annual export quota is 1,500 tons, More than enough is available for all purposes. d0 Formic Acid: the present output of 90% formic acid is used entirely by Chemische Fabrik Finowtal, Eberswalde0 It is planned to start the export of formic acid in 1953. a. Methanol: A theoretical yearly export quota of 17,000 tons has been established, but up to the present all de iverie.3 abroad have been to Russia on the reparations account (Konto 'IT"). The entire annual produc- tion of methanol of SAG Leuna is around 30,0O0 tons. The 1951 trade agreement with Russia provided for the export o;' 3,000 tons. This product is to be.used for the manufacture of explosives, Miscellaneous a, (_The DDR is at present very anxious to export chlorine, of which it has large stocks, There is no export veto but deliveries are at present impossible because of a shortage of special tank cars and materials for packing and transport.) The yearly export quota is 36,000 tons and cannot be met for the above reasons, b, The DDR now sees itself obliged to import sulphuric acid (in contrast to 1949/19%0), principally from Russia and Hungary. c. The DDR is at present unable to export any phosphorus because of its own current internal needs, Shortage of this commodity is partly responsible for the bottleneck in tricresyl phosphate, Requests from Poland for the import of this commodity have had to be refused. d, The DDR delegation which left for Warsaw on 3 October to negotiate a .long term trade agreement with Poland is represented in the chemical field by Joachim Nitschke, the principal expert for the chemical and mining industry of the Ministry of Foreign Trade. The delegation is headed by Georg Handke. ? Comment. Available reference raterial lists 25X1 25X1 Approved For Release 2006/03/03 : CIA-RDP82-00457RO10600340005-6
