V-2 Launching Site at Kolobrzeg, THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS INFORMATION AFFECTING THE NATIONAL DEFENSE OF THE UNITED STATES. WITHIN THE MEANING OF TITLE 10. SECTIONS 703 AND 794. OF THE U. S. CODE. THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION 1. In January 1950 the western part of the city of Kolobrzeg (Kolberg - 055fD[14) was under the administration of the Poles and the eastern part mostly under that of the-Russians. The whole district of Maikuhle was fenced off with barbed wire and the Poles were forbidden entrance. There is a camp Kolobrzeg which is very strongly guarded by Russian soldiers and has watch towers at each of the four corners. In January 1950 there were about 150 Germans working there, of which about 30 were skilled workmen and apprentices (fitters, welders{ mechanics? plumbers, underground workers, and a great many iron workers). The work was under the direction of an engineer nailed Gavrilov (fnu) (phonetic), said to be Russian; he spoke fluent German. 2. In the district of Maikuhle a large steel turntable (DREHKRANZ)was set up. This turntable, on which was placed a kind of carriage (LI`LFETTI) which carried a large structure about five to six meters high, was approximately 35 m. in diameter, The carriage was secured to the turntable so that it was possible to rotate both the turntable'and the carriage by means of a revolving installation (DREHVORRICHTUNG). The carriage had about six frontal pins (STIRNZAPFI.N). Two towers of a kind of steel scaffolding approximately 30 meters high were erected on top of the carriage, apparently to reinforce the carriage. In about December 1950, a pipe measuring approximately 25-28 meters long and looking more like a torpedo tube than a gun barrel, arrived by rail; it was about 1 meter in diameter. It was said to be a tube for V-2 launching installation copied by the Russians under German directions.* At the end of December 1950 Gavrilov also said that it was the same thing that the Germans had called V-2 in Peenemunde. The tube was brought by Russian soldiers by means of several cranes. The Maikuhle cemetery in Kolobrzeg was levelled for the construction of this installation and isolated by barbed wire; Russian sentries with M.G.'s were posted on the ground and in watch towers.
