?,2. LEGISLATION Called .the Senate
Committee on Rules and Administration to check on the status of S. 2
the "Sunset" legislation. I was informed that the 14 June. mark--up was
cancelled and has been rescheduled for 21 June.
23. LEGISLATION Called the Senate Committee
on Governmental Affairs to check on the status of S. 2596, a "Presidential
Papers" bill. The bill has no action scheduled in the near future. I was
informed that my staff contact with regard to the bill would be Jra Shapiro
at 224-2789. "It
24.. LEGISLATION Called the House Judiciary
Subcommittee on Courts, Civil Liberties and Administration of Justice to
ask about the status of 11. R. 7308, the ''Electronic Surveillance" bill. I
was informed that the Subcommittee,,wwillhold hearings on 22 June at 10:00 a. in.
in Rayburn Room 2237 and on 23 June at 10:00 a. ra. in Rayburn Room. 2226.
25. LIAISON Thomas K. Latimer, Staff
Director, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, called
requesting that I bring down the package of intelligence reports on the
Cuban involvement in the invasion of Zaire. I told him I would bring
them down today and did so.
26. Called Mike O'Neil, Chief Counsel, House
Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, to alert him that we wished
him to review both Pike Committee and Church Committee transcripts as
well as Agency documents that were generated in preparation for those
Congressional committees. Mike said that he would be happy to review the
material and requested that we provide him with an Agency position on
whether these doc ments s Id or should not be released. I have passed
this request on to OGC, who indicated that a paper would be
forthcoming.
27. LIAISON Alan Brown, House Permanent
Select Committee on Intelligence staff, called requesting the status of security
clearances on Arlene G. Merek, who is clue to report for work at the
Committee on 19 June. After checking with,Bob Leidenhcirne.r, DCI Security
Officer, I told Mr. Brown that Ms. Merek.'s clearances had'l ecn approved
and that Bob Karczheski, Office of Security, would be at the Committee offices
at 10:30 a. m. on the 19th of June to brief her on codetvord clearances.
